THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE
In 90 years, the District has had several offices from which its administrative staff worked. In the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s that was in Parkrose at the old District office on 105th and Sandy. In the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s the office was on the current compound near the front gate where an old home had been moved in and made into an office. Having your office in the conference room was difficult when “they” wanted to meet and “you” wanted to work, but staff made it work for many years.

Finally, in 2000 the District determined to use the remaining bond money to build an office. They went to the landowners, explained the need and the process and had it approved. In 2001 construction was begun and the dedication was October 2002. Over the next year the house which sat on the site was burned by the fire department.

The current office is about 4400 square feet, and houses six private offices and one reception area. The conference room is extremely busy with many district and non-district meetings being held. One unique circumstance is evident. Only after building was underway did the City decide the restroom facilities were inadequate for the number of folks that might attend an event in the conference room. Therefore, two individual restrooms were added to two offices – private/public restrooms.
The Conference Room is designed to be an emergency command center. It is wired with extra phone outlets, wi-fi, and other computer assists.
The kitchen is equipped with a countertop oven and microwave to assist in preparing meals for those staying at the office during an emergency.
A closet in the director’s office is maintained with emergency food, phones and other equipment, as well as the manuals that would be used in case of an emergency. A closet in another office is used to house the SCADA system, the computerized monitor for the pump stations of the districts, and all the manuals for that.
Finally, at the entrance to the building is a Sentinel, a statute conceived and erected by the MCDD field crew in 2007 as their contribution to the celebration of the 90th year of service to the landowners. He stands as a guardian of the Districts and the values that make the District what it is.
