March 15, 2017 – A Flood Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the next few days. The most recent forecast is for the Columbia River to Crest at 15.98’ (at the Vancouver Gauge) about mid-day on Friday.
In response, MCDD staff, on behalf of all four districts, is initiating early steps to prepare for potential flood conditions. Actions we are taking, include:
- Identifying any immediate risks by reviewing recent levee inspection records and conducting a thorough pre-event system inspection
- Notifying partners
- Beginning 24 hour situational reports
Most importantly, we are in communication with our partners at the Corps of Engineers and the National Weather Service so we can continue to closely monitor the situation. At this time we expect River levels to remain elevated (in the 16’ range) for several days. The Corps anticipates flows of the upper portions of the Columbia River basin will begin to slowly recede over the weekend. This is expected to lower the water level at the Vancouver gauge below 15’ next week.
